Happy New Year E-town! (At what point is it too late to be wishing people a Happy New Year?) While we’re still in the month of January, we wanted to take some time and talk about your goals for this year. We all know the holidays are a busy time, for most of us it means get togethers that involved heavy holiday meals and perhaps one too many cocktails. Maybe we indulged and enjoyed ourselves. Maybe we skipped our weekly workouts or maybe we didn’t work out at all. It happens, that’s life. But let’s talk about getting back on track.
Are you a resolution-er? Have you made resolutions for 2018 and already broken said resolutions? Insert random statistic here about how many people make resolutions and then don’t stick to them. Guilty. The general idea is always the same, pick a realistic goal and then break it down into smaller steps to attain said goal. With the CrossFit Open on the horizon, we want to challenge you to participate!
What is the CrossFit Open anyway? In short, it’s a series of 5 workouts spread out through 5 weeks that anybody worldwide can register and participate in. It’s the first step in qualifying towards regionals and ultimately the CrossFit Games, which is essentially the Superbowl of the sport. All of the weekly workouts have Rx standards and scalable versions as well, meaning EVERYBODY including your mom can do it. (But really, she can do it too!)
“I’m not going to the CrossFit Games, why should I do the open?” “There’s no way I could do those crazy workouts! That’s not for me.” Here’s the thing, the reality is the majority of the people that participate in the open are NOT going to the CrossFit Games. Not even close. Participation in the open is more of a community celebration of what the body can do and for us “normal humans” it gives people a short term goal to work towards coming off the holiday season. Registration is now open at https://games.crossfit.com/ and it’s going on from February 22 – March 26.
As far as small steps to get to that goal, Coach Adam will be leading an Open Prep Course on Sundays at 9 am and Thursdays at 7:30 pm leading up to the open. If it scares the crap out of you, do it! If you’re a seasoned veteran and want to see how you measure up, do it! If you just joined CrossFit and want to know why the heck everyone loves the “community” so much, do it! If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, come and chat with one of coaches at the gym. We’re all ears!
