What brought you to CrossFit e-town?
It had been close to two months since I had moved to Evanston from the city and hadn’t found a good gym yet. In between working full-time and attending school I found myself losing my health, gaining weight. I always liked working in group settings and wanted to find a place where I could be committed and motivated enough to show up even with all the excuses around. I did a yelp search and found Cross Fit-Etown would be the only gym with great reviews and could also suit my schedule. So I signed up for 101.
What was your first impression?
I was in the waiting area at around 6:15 am Monday morning my first day, and I heard the sounds of barbells up and down the floor. It was a full house that day. While it was a little intimidating, it looked fun at the same time. I was immediately impressed by great coaches and their knowledge and patience during 101. The CrossFit community at e-town is genuinely caring, and helpful. Almost every single member came up to help/assist/guide me when they saw me struggling. I knew I had chosen the right place to start working out.
What are you currently working on?
I am working on commitment. My goal is to show up at least 5-6 times a week. If I could get those pull-ups, handstand push-ups and other gymnastic skills along the way, that would be great.
What’s the toughest part of CrossFit for you?
Is anything easy ? I need to work on a lot of things. I initially did not enjoy wall balls, rowing, and was scared of the 24′ box jumps. Since, then I have certainly improved on those.
What is your favorite memory at CrossFit e-town?
Everyday has been a great experience but if I have to pick out one I would say it has be a strength/skill session we were doing seated box jumps. I just couldn’t do them. I was too scared that I might hurt myself and I didn’t have enough strength to do them. With different progressions Coach Kevin made sure I overcame my fear and was able to do them 5 minutes later the same day.
How long have you been doing CrossFit?
I started CrossFit a little over two months ago, and I have a long away to go. I think it would take about a year to be where I would like to be at this point.
What kind of changes have you seen, both physically and mentally?
Physically I have definitely gotten a lot stronger, my endurance has gone up. Mentally I have gotten a lot better at handling the stress in life, school, and work.
