The first 2018 CrossFit Open events will be announced Thursday, February 22 and you can register any time up until the first event submission deadline the following Monday. Not sure what we’re talking about? You can learn the basics of the CrossFit Open here.
Taking Part in the Open at CrossFit e-town
Similar to last year, we will be doing our own in-house Intramural Open competition. Each week we will program the Open WODs on Fridays during classes…with the emphasis on FUN! This year we will have 2 teams with Lindsay S. and Matt G. as our captains. You’re not required to register online through www.games.crossfit.com to take part. You don’t even have to commit to all five weeks. Regardless of how you choose to participate itt will be a fun way to get a feel for the Open and to have a little extra fun at the gym. We’ll be announcing more info about our etown Open plans soon…
The Benefits of Registering Online:
Registering online lets you take part in the official global leaderboard, and it’s a fun way to track your progress year to year. You’ll be officially competing in the world-wide CrossFit Open, which for many people is a little added push to refine your training and nutrition, and really give it your all.
If you’re still not sure whether it’s for you, here are 5 big reasons to sign up online or take part in our own CrossFit e-town Intramural Open:
1. Be a Part of Something Huge
Last year, more than 380,000 people signed up for the Open. With such a wide range of CrossFitters involved, it’s a great way to see how you stack up against the rest of the world. How will your score compare to Adam’s or Gregg’s 🙂 Where will you rank vs. last year? Where will you rank against athletes throughout Evanston, IL and the World? This is your chance to find out.
2. It’s More Accessible Than Ever
Only a small percentage of athletes sign up for a chance to go to Regionals or the Games. For the rest of us, it’s just a fun way to meet more CrossFit e-town members and have some fun. With the scaled option, it’s even more accessible. So don’t worry about whether you’re fit enough– it’s for everyone, so give it a chance. We’ll even be providing a scaled option for people who don’t care about logging their score online.
3. Test Yourself and Set Benchmarks
The Open is a fantastic way to get a sense of your strengths and weaknesses, and find new things to work on over the next year. Plus, you might even PR or get your first pull-up!
4. It’s a Great Introduction for Friends and Family
Want to show your friends and family what it’s all about? Want to give your kids a chance to cheer you on? The Open is a party, it’s a way for us to throw down and celebrate the hard work we’ve put in over the last year. We encourage you to bring friends and family to watch you complete the workouts – that’s half the fun!
5. You Have Nothing to Lose
You have nothing to lose, and you’ll regret it if you don’t sign up. That’s not a threat, but it is a warning. We saw a lot of members last year wish that they’d signed up after the fact, so don’t be that guy or gal!
We’re not saying the Open is easy. The workouts are hard. At moments, it might feel absolutely horrible. In the end, though, it’s about putting yourself out there, supporting your fellow etown members and celebrating your progress.
So what have you got to lose?
The Intramural Open is FREE and everyone can participate We will be programming the workouts on Fridays with an emphasis to competing at 5:30pm at our Friday Night Lights Celebrations!
Last but not least, we will have a limited number of Intramural Open Shirts…$25 each!
