How long have you been CrossFitting and where were you before CrossFit e-town?

3 ½ years. I started my CrossFit journey at Signal 5 CrossFit in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. When we moved to Chicago in October of 2015 I was a member of Windy City CrossFit.

What brought you to e-town?

We moved out of the city to Evanston. I was looking for a gym that had a convenient location, good class times, and great coaches. I came to one WOD and immediately signed up!

What was your first impression of CrossFit when you started? Has it changed?

I was completely convinced that I wouldn’t enjoy CrossFit, but my husband encouraged me to go to an intro class and I have been hooked ever since.

That intro class ended up being a private session with one of the gym owners. I got my butt completely kicked with wallballs, burpees, and the dreaded sled push. I didn’t know if I was going to throw up or pass out (I think I even asked if they had an AED during that workout). Afterwards I was sore and exhausted, but felt so accomplished and exhilarated. I couldn’t wait to come back for my next workout.

Fortunately, I still feel that way today.

What caused your greatest improvement?

Perseverance, positive coaching, and passion have helped me to continue to make gains inside and outside of the gym. There are always challenges and setbacks during our journey. The positive relationships that I have made with fellow members and coaches at all of the gyms I have been a part of are what fosters improvement.

What are you working on now?

General strength, health and wellness are my reasons for coming to CrossFit. I love the challenge with the workouts and the bonds that I am able to make with fellow WOD mates. My goal is to finally accomplish the elusive muscle-up!

What’s your favorite e-town memory so far?

Can’t say that I have just one or a favorite. The best part of e-town is the great coachingand atmosphere! Everyone has been extremely welcoming and supportive.

Now your husband Tim is starting to come to CrossFit e-town.  How is that going to change things for you? 🙂

Well to say that we are slightly competitive would be an understatement. He is a morning person and I like to workout in the afternoon, so he sets the bar and I have the opportunity to chase that score. Sometimes I win sometimes he wins! No matter the outcome, I know that he is always challenging me to be the best and strongest version of me. I love that we have this in common and can workout together on weekends!
